Weekend TV: 'Fringe,' 'Globes, 'Girls'

The end of the universe has always been nigh on Fringe, but now, sadly, the end we're facing belongs to Fringe itself. There are only three hours left, tonight's episode and next week's two-hour finale, so if the Fringe team is going to free the world of the Observers and create a happy future (or past) for themselves and us, they'd better get hopping.

The Golden Globes

NBC, Sunday, 8 ET/PT

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler host one of Hollywood's best annual parties - and least-important awards. The stars of movies and television will all be there, and will be thrilled in the moment if they win, because it's a prize and when prizes are offered, it's just human nature to want one. But always keep this in mind: The only people and shows that ever mention they've won a Golden Globe are the ones who haven't won anything else.

Girls
HBO, Sunday, 9 ET/PT

Lena Dunham's remarkable - and remarkably personal - comedy returns in fine form, as Dunham's Hannah adjusts to life with a new roommate. You may not like the characters Dunham has created or want to spend time with them, but it's hard to deny the singular if insular authenticity of the universe she's constructed. Still, it's not for everyone, so if Girls does not appeal, you have two other terrific scripted options at the same time: CBS' The Good Wife and PBS' Downton Abbey. So if you default to the Honey Boo Boo special, don't come crying to me that there's nothing good on television.
