TV tonight: 'Carrie,' 'Bones'
Posted January 13, 2013
The Carrie Diaries
CW, 8 ET/PT
Whoever she is, she's a charmer.
It's clear who this teen soap wants you think the title character is: a 16-year-old, circa-1984 Carrie Bradshaw (a very appealing AnnaSophia Robb), a would-be writer who will grow up to be the heroine of Sex and the City. That poses two, related problems: Will those who know the woman Carrie became believe this is the girl she used to be? And will those who don't know the older Carrie - and many in CW's target young audience may not - find the younger version compelling enough on her own? Odds are viewers will find it easier to say "yes" to the second question than the first. And for CW purposes, one yes is enough, particularly since the second "yes" is the one the network really needs.
Fox, 8 ET/PT
This long-running Fox hit celebrates its recent renewal with two episodes, the first of which sends Bones and Booth undercover at a popular dance show when one of the dancers is murdered. So You Think You Can Dance's Mary Murphy guests, so if they need someone to scream when the body is discovered, you know who they'll ask.
CBS, 10 ET/PT
Here's a live-TV novelty: Once the motives are revealed in tonight's outing about the murder of a professor, viewers will be sent to Twitter or CBS.com to name the murderer, with separate voting (and the possibility of a different ending) in the East and West coast broadcasts. Could be fun -and should be easy, as I've never seen a Five-0 where you couldn't pick out the criminal before the cops did.
